Getting To Know…Russell
Favourite industry publication? C&IT, although I am also an avid reader of The Times travel section.
Top tip for getting the most out of a networking event? The British are renowned for many things but talking to a room full of strangers however isn’t one of them. That is how it is easy to stand out when networking, people are often relieved when you come up and introduce yourself. Have a couple of questions ready such as asking where they are from, what they want to get out of the event and who they are looking to meet. By sharing this information, you may find that they have already met the people you would like to meet and can introduce you. Finally, be polite and allow them enough time to relax in your company but be mindful about the fact that you need to move on and talk to others, no one should be offended, after all that’s what they are there for too!!
Something you wished all venues did as standard? I always appreciate a phone call after an event to simply ask how it went rather than by email. We are after all a very human industry with customer service at its core.
Career wow moment? From a business perspective, merging with the Fruitful team. From an event perspective, helping to launch the new look Holiday Inn, a 5,000 person event held across 5 days.
